An Aboriginal language project in Coffs Harbour has been launched by a NSW State government program to help first-time speakers learn Aboriginals’ languages.
The Indigenous Language Service works with parents and teachers to help Aboriginal children gain basic comprehension and understanding of Aboriginals’ languages.
The first language students learn is spoken in languages such as English and the Indigenous language of Kakadu.
It is also taught the importance of respecting elders and keeping traditions.
The program started with a six month pilot with seven kids and one teacher who has received funding from the Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
It now has 100 students, one teacher, and four staff and t바카라사이트he Indigenous Language Service has a long-term funding agreement for six years for $50 million for 2017-18.
The aim is to reach all Aboriginal communities.
