Dealers turning apartments into drug dens police say are being run by Mexican gang members to serve as drug distribution hubs are in danger of falling victim to an epidemic of violence, drug trafficking and drug distribution, the FBI has found in a report released Tuesday that highlights some of the problems facing law enforcement officials in the U.S. trying to combat the epidemic.

„While it’s important to protect residents, the problem has to be addressed on the street as well,“ said Robert Boyce, who heads up the FBI’s criminal justice division in New York’s New York City Police Department, during a news briefing at the department’s headquarters in midtown.

As gangs continue to expand their presence in a population that has traditionally relied on gangs for protection, there is evidence that the number of gang members in the nation’s neighborhoods — including New York City — has more than doubled since 2008, according to the FBI report on gang dynamics in the United States.

Some of these increased gang members are now even known to be gang-adjacent — the term used to describe people who live within gang-dominated neighborhoods.

According to the report released Tuesday, gang members in New York City are making and buying heroin at levels far in excess of the levels considered safe by the CDC. That means that while they may not be at risk of contracting a deadly disease, they have been exposed 이천출장안마to dangerous levels of the drug to the point where they could become infected with HIV.

New York police and the FBI also found in their annual monitoring report that more than half of all drug dealers are operating under the influence of drugs themselves, meaning they lack the basic knowledge of how to detect illegal drug sales — knowle인터넷 카지노dge that is difficult to get without being an informant.

„This is the drug environment we live in,“ said Peter Donaldson, president of the New York City Drug Policy Alliance who attended Tuesday’s news conference. „It’s hard for law enforcement to identify those people and protect the people who are in the neighborhoods and know how to operate.“

But there is no simple explanation for the increased violence in neighborhoods of Mexican immigrants — especially since many of them live in inner-city and lower-income neighborhoods and are disproportionately impacted by the gang presence.
